I think I could spend an entire weekend “junk huntin.” Whether its garage sales, estate sales, resale shops, or flea markets, I love every inch of the hunt for some thing interesting.
It had been a long time, I mean a looooonnnnnggggg time since Momma and I have gone on a hunt. But back in May, we hit up the local flee market, which is just up the road from the farm.
Here are some of the treasures we found, what do you think?
This is what our “haul” looked like all loaded up.
Momma and her find. It is a wash stand. Each side holds a “wash tub” and the top center rung holds the “wringer.” (Which I have and she tried to steal. “Keep your grubby mitts off my gear lady!”)
LOVE! This is an old cultivator that the craftsman converted in to a “wheel barrow” planter. I was in love with it the moment I saw it. DELICIOUS!
“Planters” created out of part of an old step ladder. Momma purchased this for me for my birthday. I think she secretly wanted to take it home for herself. :)
This was a MY spurge. I HAD to have it. There was absolutely NO way I was leaving with out. (I wasn’t sure it was going to fit in the back of my SUV, but I would have strapped it to the roof if needed.) It is a bench, loose term, made from an old solid six panel door. It fits in to a perfect spot on the porch that was always an awkward space to fill. Now its filled with something old, repurposed and useful.
And this…….
This is my favorite find.
Creative repurposing.
Yes an old wooden ironing board.
But it gets better, check this out….
Yes, the ORIGINAL Sears & Roebuck instruction sticker!!!
How damn cool is that??!!
Oh and here’s the kicker….. I paid $5 for it. CHAaaaaa-CHING!!!
Now here is how I used it…….
Kitchen AFTER! I slightly rearranged the table and chairs. And created an “island” by using the ironing board.
What do you think?
I love it. We were never sold on an island or bar when we built the house. But this works quite well. I think it is because it fairly narrow, open at the bottom (so it does not consume the room visually), and can easily be moved. I think Hubs HATED it and the idea of it at first, well still not in love with it, but I think he is more used to it and using it.
Happy Junk Hunting to all of you!!
